Jaipur Atrauli Gharana in Hindustani Classical Music.

The inheritance of the this gharana can be marked out to Nath Vishwambhar. He was famous for setting the tunes of the sankrit hymns (shlok) to Raags, while he would perform  his puja. The great musician composer Swami Haridas was also born in this family. Musical giants Tansen and Baiju were his pupils.

This Gharana is also called as Jaipur Atrauli Gharana in Hindustani Classical Music. Ustad Alladiyan Khan was the pioneer in spreading fame of this Gharana. He was from the Uniyara village in Rajasthan. He wrote many Bandish in the praise of Hindu gods and goddesses. Thus, he has set an example for Hindu-Muslim unity. ‘आदिदाता अनंत दयावंत तूही जगतकरता एकही निराकार’ is his one of the very famous Bandish in Malkans Raag. His family roots are traced back to Atrauli near Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh), from where it later migrated to Jaipur. Thus, the gharana received its title as Jaipur Atrauli Gharana.

As per the conviction of some music lovers, ‘Manrang’ was was the founder of Jaipur Atrauli Gharana in Indian Classical Music. Some also proclaim that Patiyala Gharana is a branch of Jaipur Atrauli Gharana. In Maharashtra, Kesarbai Kerkar, Mogubai Kurdikar, Pandit Mallikarjun Mansoor, Kishori Amonkar are the chief singers who made this Gharana popular in the state.

Salient feature of Jaipur Atrauli Gharana:

The Jaipur-Atrauli gharana is also known as the Jaipur Gharana or Atrauli-Jaipur Gharana, or Alladiyakhani Gharana. This gharana widely uses Khayal style in its singing family-hood. This Gharana chiefly has its origin in Dagar Bani of Dhrupad. Yet, it also engrossed an improved version of Gauhar Bani and Khandar Bani.

This Gharana is inclined to present unfamiliar Raag of Hindustani Classical Music. Sampurna Malkans, Basanti Kedar, Ramsa Kanada, Kabeer Bhairav, Khokar are some of the unheard Raag that Jaipur Atrauli Gharana singers are keen to sing.

One more feature of thie Jaipur Atrauli Gharana in Hindustani Classical Music is Vakra and extensive Taan. Singers of this Gharana are expert in a great control over the breathing. In the past, singers of Jaipur Atrauli Gharana in Indian Classical Music would not sing Thumari, Dadra etc. However, Kishori Amonkar of this Gharana sings Gazhals, Thumari, Dadra, Bhajans very effectively. Also, singers in the past would not sing Sargam. Jaipur Atrauli Gharana is considered as a scholar style of singing. Open voice and a special style to land on Sam are some of the other characteristics of this Gharana.

Music researcher give the credit of the purity of this Gharana to Ustad Alladiya Khan, his brother Ustad Haider Ali Khan, his sons Ustad Manji Khan and Ustad Bhurji Khan and grandson Ustad Azizuddin Khan and Gaan Yogini Dhondutai Kulkarni the only perfectionist outside of the Utd.
